I was asked to write more on this blog. So here I am. Currently watching some new anime shows. "Tales of the Abyss" was so-so as expected, I should probably finish the game rather than watch the show. Although it would probably be easier to just watch the show. Looking forward to "Gundam 00" season 2. And I'm watching "Wolf's Rain" also, which is proving to be really awesome. Oh and "Heroes". Let's not forget about "Heroes". Yes "Heroes". Need. More. "Heroes".
"Heroes".
Work is work. BIG deadline on Tuesday when our Customer (capital C) is visiting to demo the system. Lots of Chaos and Confusion. And frustration from management. I'm going to Stockholm on Friday so I'll probably (hopefully) miss the before-weekend-frustration-attacks that will surely befall my colleagues. Although many of our problems right now arise from a sub-project that isn't following specifications. Frustrations. Call that sub-project A, then it communicates directly with B (another project), B communicates with a component (part of my system) we can call... C. Which in turn communicates with my component (D). Which creates a slight problem for me. Since once all the bugs in A are ironed out (slowly I might add) then B's errors will surface and be corrected before C until the whole process reaches D. This could of course be solved with doing integration testing between BC and CD by themselves, but there hasn't been any time to set up that kind of environment. So the worst-case scenario is work on Sunday, Monday night and then stalling on Tuesday.
Oh well, party Saturday in any case :)
P.S.

Back from London
So I'm back from London. Had a good weekend, lots of shopping (for me atleast). We saw the musical "The Wicked" which was really awesome. A super show with a bit of comedy and drama and tragedy that I'd recommend to anyone. I bought the book it's based on also, found it at a used book-store as well as a collection of Ursula K. Le Guin's "Earthsea" books.
I managed to pick up a couple of Banksy reproductions on canvas which I'll put up on my wall some day. You could almost literally find them at each and every corner so he seems to be fairly popular over there. Anyway, off to unpack my things.

Age of Conan
Ah as a true gamer I hopped on the band wagon that is Age of Conan. Here are two screenies from the game (low res and small). I really like it.
The "Valley of Connal" (I think). The valley itself is a forest with lots of evil invaders and angry wolves. What is hard to see is that straight ahead of my character on the other side of the valley there is a waterfall. I could actually see the water moving from that distance. Excellent! I eventually helped vanquish several commanders of the invading forces and their allies.
This pic is from the "Valley of Zelata", the area I'm currently in. From what I can make out it is ruled by a sorceress who somehow controls the wildlife there. I'm supposed to meet with her but I haven't bothered making the trip yet. As usual in the Conan universe, conflicts are everywhere. In this zone dark creations of Nemedian sorcerers have appeared and are spreading terror throughout the are. I'm sure the source can be found in the fortress beside the vulcano, but alas I have no real evidence.
Okay, enough gaming. Right now I'm sitting on the edge of my seat because I really feel like drinking alot of coffee but I have no filters. I have one last chance, and that is going down to my local pizzeria and ask if they have any. Which is kinda funny. Other news include that I'm going to the Blizzard Entertainment World Wide Invitational, mostly to check out Starcraft 2 (crap gaming again) but also watch some of the tournaments. We're gonna be staying just about a week so hopefully there'll be some pics of Versailles up here. But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. :-P

Thursday, the day in the middle of the week
Now that I think of it, Thursday is pretty interesting. If you think about it it's pretty close to Thor's day, which happens to be the Swedish (and probably Danish and Norwegian) word for Thursday. Think about it.
In other news, my cold has worsened. My throat is really crapped. On top of this I just got a mail at work; It seems the requirements verification never ends at this place. Have I mentioned how I dislike requirements verification?

Bugging me
Something's been bugging me since this Friday/weekend. Seems like I forgot something that I was supposed to do. I know that there was something but I can't seem to recall what. Makes me kinda nervous, these sort of things always do. I've checked every form of calendar I have but the weekend is empty. What the hell did I forget? Did I dream something up? Did I piss someone off? *insert swearing*
It really bothers me.
It really bothers me.

Random rambling at work
Sitting here waiting for the heat to reach an above-cold level in the office. It took the landlord a week to turn it on after turning it off for some reason, and now of course it's gonna take the whole day for it to actually reach a tolerable level. Cheapskates!
On to other things, random crashes in string destructors (actually the deallocators) are interesting. Especially when you've seen it before, found the issue and discovered that it was really a non-issue and then suddenly it pops up again but with none of the causes( non-local static destruction) you found earlier. And off I am debugging.
Edit:
Found the error. Default copy & assignment were the villains. This talks about why that can create problems. This particular problem was shallow copying of members containing pointers. The members deallocated the memory upon destruction, thus wrecking havoc when the the other object was destroyed.

Here we go again
I guess I'll try this blogging thing again. Third time or something? Let's see what I make of it.
The title of the blog is apparently some philosophical/existentialist notion but I first came into contact with it in a Stargate SG-1 episode (quoting "Fake" Teal'c):
"Sci-Fi is an existential metaphor that allows us to tell stories about the human condition. Isaac Asimov once said, 'Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinded critics and philosophers of today. But the core of science fiction its essence has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all.'"
I kinda like that quote. And I like Sci-fi, so it seemed like a nice title for the blog. Ironic thing is I haven't read any Asimov besides "Nightfall" and "The Last Question", perhaps only the earlier touched upon the human condition. Maybe I should read some more, any tips?
Oh well, time to get the laundry. And then go to bed. Meeting tomorrow morning. Crap. Hopefully won't oversleep. Lots to do, probably long day tomorrow. The whole team is behind schedule and my project manager seems to get a bit more distressed every day though he doesn't show it. As I said. Crappy.
